CLINICAL AND LABORATORY ASSESSMENT OF THE LONG-TERM TREATMENT RESULTS OF CHRONIC GENERALIZED PERIODONTITIS IN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES SMOKERS

Abstract

Purpose of the study. Clinical and laboratory assessment of the long-term treatment results of chronic generalized periodontitis in subjects who use electronic devices for smoking. Research methods. Clinical and laboratory studies were carried out in 70 subjects aged 18–44 with a diagnosis of “chronic generalized periodontitis of the initial-I degree” who smoke electronic cigarettes. Two groups were formed to evaluate long-term treatment results (after 6 and 12 months). The activity of urease and lysozyme in the oral fluid and the degree of the oral dysbiosis were determined. Scientific novelty. As a result of the application of our proposed method, which included two-stage local complex therapy and maintenance therapy, after 12 months, 81.36±4.60% of subjects in the main group were diagnosed with "stabilization" of the periodontal tissues state, against 16.26±7.27% of persons in the control group, in which traditional treatment of generalized periodontitis of initial – I degree was carried out, p<0.01. It was also possible to make a significant impact on the improvement of biochemical markers of oral fluid, namely urease and lysozyme in relation to the data before treatment. Conclusions. Thus, the developed method of complex treatment of the initial forms of chronic generalized periodontitis in young persons, who use electronic tobacco smoking devices, included targeted pathogenetic therapy, which provided high clinical results and normalization of the biochemical inflammation markers in the oral fluid in the long observational terms.
