Purpose of the study. To establish the frequency and intensity of hard dental tissue defects in patients across various age groups in the Rivne region. Research methods. Clinical and radiological examinations were conducted on 1004 individuals who had sought dental care at the Department of Dentistry’s clinical facility at Luhansk State Medical University in Rivne city. Clinical and radiological assessments were performed. The patients were separated into four groups by age. Group I comprised 239 individuals aged 18 to 30 years, while group II included 258 patients aged 31 to 45 years. Group III consisted of 259 patients aged 46 to 60 years, and group IV contained 248 patients aged over 61 years. For each patient, a clinical diagnosis was made to determine the prevalence of dental hard tissue damage, the intensity of the damage in each patient and in each age group, and the stage of disease progression. Results. The examination showed a total of 983 patients with unrecoverable defects of dental hard tissue (97,9%). The main etiological factor identified for dental crown destruction was deemed to be caries, with 738 patients (75,1%) exhibiting this condition. Additionally, non-caries diseases were observed in 91 individuals (9,3%) and a combination of caries and non-caries lesions were present in 154 patients (15,6%). The calculated average index of intensity for hard tissue defects in teeth of patients from different groups was 5,6+3,4. While examining patients of all ages, 5612 teeth with defects requiring therapeutic or orthopaedic restoration were detected. Violation of crown integrity due to caries occurred in 3,163 cases (56,3% of total defects), wedge-shaped defects in 1,261 cases (22,4%), pathological abrasion in 1,161 cases (20,7%), and traumatic injuries in 33 cases (0,6%). Conclusions. The prevalence of hard dental tissue defects among adult residents in Rivne region is 97,9%. The incidence and severity of lesions on the crown of teeth considerably increase with patient age, due to a rise in the rate of generalized non-carious lesions in older individuals.
