EPIDEMIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF HEAD AND NECK PATHOLOGY AMONG THE POPULATION OF KHARKIV REGION

Abstract

The purpose of the study. Determination of epidemiological features of head and neck pathology among the population of Kharkiv region for the period from 2012 to 2020. Materials and methods of the research. The material of the study was the reporting documentation about the analysis of the work of head and neck surgery department of the Municipal Non-profit Institution of the Kharkiv Regional Council "Regional Clinical Hospital" (MNI KRC "RCH") for the period from 2012 to 2020. The significance of the relative indicators differences was checked using the paired Z-criterion. Differences at p<0.05 were considered significant. Scientific novelty. During the period from 2012 to 2020, the number of patients hospitalized to the head and neck surgery department of the MNI KRC "RCH" and, accordingly, the number of operative interventions changed in a wave-like manner, which was evidenced by their increase from 2012 to 2013, decrease from 2013 to 2015, increase from 2015 to 2018 and decrease from 2018 to 2020. Among the head and neck pathologies of the residents of Kharkiv region, a low frequency of occurrence was characteristic of neoplasms, osteomyelitis, congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal disorders; the average frequency of occurrence – for the respiratory organs diseases, diseases of the oral cavity, salivary glands and jaws; high frequency of occurrence – for injuries resulting from external causes, diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Conclusions. The peculiarities of the head and neck pathology in residents of Kharkiv region identified by the authors must be taken into account when organizing the health care system at the regional level and planning research work in higher medical educational institutions.
