RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE PREVALENCE OF CARIES AND ITS COMPLICATIONS AMONG CHILDREN OF THE TRANSCARPATHIAN REGION

Abstract

Purpose of the study. Conduct a retrospective analysis of the prevalence, intensity of caries of temporary teeth and its complications among children of the Transcarpathian region, as well as the features of their course, taking into account the endemic features of the Transcarpathian region and its direct impact on the course of the carious process, and accordingly, its complications. The aim of our study was to determine the percentage of prevalence of acute and chronic forms of pulpitis and periodontitis among both temporary and variable bites. Research results and their discussion. To determine the condition of hard tissues of teeth in children of the Transcarpathian region, we conducted a retrospective analysis of dental patient cards (form 043/O) of the Archive database of LLC "University Dental Clinic and Transcarpathian regional clinical dental clinic, within the framework of a joint activity agreement. The documentation of the examined patients was analyzed, taken for 3 years (2019-2022), the number of analyzed medical records was 1025. the gender distribution of the examined sample of 1025 children was also carried out, as a result: 475 boys and 550 girls. Conclusions. The monitoring of dental care carried out in recent years by the Ministry of health of Ukraine indicates a high level of dental morbidity of the population. During the content analysis of medical documentation, we noted a high level of prevalence of 96.8 % and the intensity of caries (14.9 – temporary bite and 12.2 – variable bite) among children of the Transcarpathian region. Moreover, these indicators do not differ significantly among boys and girls (p<0.05). There is also a high rate of complicated caries: 46.5 % among people with a temporary bite and 42.4 % among those examined with a variable bite, while there were no significant differences in indicators by gender factor. Our results confirm the need to improve methods of prevention and treatment of caries in order to reduce the percentage of its occurrence and development of complications.
