Abstract

Peri-implantitis is one of the most common complicationsof dental implantation, characterized by inflammation andprogressive resorption of marginal bone tissue aroundthe implant, which can lead to its loss and a significantdeterioration in the aesthetic and functional parameters of the smile. The available literature shows a strong association between peri-implantitis and severe caries, but there is still a lack of systematic information on the state of hard dental tissues in such patients, especially in Ukraine.Filling this gap is an important step to optimize preventive strategies and develop personalized treatment protocols aimed at preserving implants and improving the quality of life of the country’s population. Purpose of the study. To comprehensively evaluate the intensity and structure of hard tissue damage in patients with peri-implantitis.Research methods. The study included 67 patients aged25 to 55 years with clinically and radiologically confirmedperi-implantitis. The condition of hard tissues was assessedby the DMFT index “carious, filled, extracted permanentteeth” in an expanded interpretation, which additionally took into account teeth under crowns and areas replaced by implants. The data obtained were compared with the national average for the adult population of Ukraine.Statistical processing was performed using Student’s t-testat a significance level of p < 0,01. Scientific novelty. The total index in the study group was 18,91 ± 0,64 and was 1,4 times higher than the average among the adult population of Ukraine (p < 0,001). The largest sharein the lesion structure was accounted for by extractedteeth (29,3%), teeth under crowns (28,5%) and areas with implants (22,1%), while active caries accounted foronly 3,1%. Conclusions. Patients with peri-implantitis are characterized by a high cumulative loss of hardtooth tissues and significant orthopedic rehabilitation, which indicates the need to develop targeted prevention programs.
